MONDAY AFTER SUNDAY
(Reid Whitelaw / Billy Carl / R Bell)  Belwin-Mills Music Limited

Origin:
Debut A Side Single on CBS Records
Also available on:
Greatest Hits (Digital Album)
The Singles Collection CD (7T's)

This was the first ever single recorded by Chicory Tip. It was released on
19th June 1970 but didn't make enough impact to make the UK charts.
The song was chosen by their manager and producer Roger Easterby.

It first appeared on CD on the compilation album "The Singles Collection"
on 7T's Records but because the original master tapes were not found, the
label approached Rick Foster from the band who luckily had collected a mint
copy of the original record which had been filed away and never played, so
the label were able to make a digital copy of the track and it was that which
was used on the CD. It was the only song taken from vinyl on the collection.

So what do we know about the three writers? Well nothing about R Bell, but
Billy Carl (aka Carlucci) and Reid Whitelaw were a couple of songwriters who
hit the charts in the States with a song called "Goody Goody Gumdrops" which
was recorded by the 1910 Fruitgum Company, whose biggest hit was "Simon
Says" in the late 1960s.  Billy and Reid formed a duo called Marshmallow Way
and were signed to United Artists Records in 1970, but they wanted to pen
more serious music and made an LP called "Year One" under the name
The Golden Gate. It was their only album. The CD of this album was released through
Cherry Red Records on the Now Sounds imprint and there were three versions of
"Monday After Sunday" in stereo and mono (with one of the mono versions
an alternate take) on the deluxe edition of this release.

We are not 100% sure if Billy Carlucci is the same Billy Carlucci who was in the
band Billy & The Essentials from the early 1960s.

LYRICS

(Sunday) I watch the sunrise through the dawn
(Monday) When I hear our favourite song
It's just a mystery to me
The melody I hear is getting me baby

Chorus

Today, tomorrow, any day I'll be there waiting
Monday after Sunday I'll wait forever to be together forever and ever

The days just seem to never end
To see your face we can't pretend
I've got to keep my fingers crossed
Something deep inside is driving me crazy

Chorus

It's just a mystery to me
The melody I hear is getting me baby

Chorus

I watch the sunrise through the dawn
When I hear our favourite song
