VIDEOS PAGE
There are a number of
videos to watch on YouTube at the moment and
we will update this list as new clips become available. Note
that the quality of each video varies considerably. If
you can point us in the right direction of a better
quality clip then please let us know, or even if you
find a good video of a song not featured here, please
tell us so we can add the link. Meanwhile enjoy these
but note that many videos have been taken down by people
breaking copyright laws and YouTube conditions, which is
disappointing for the true fan who would genuinely love
to see some of these clips.
CHICORY TIP VIDEO
AND AUDIO CLIPS
SON OF MY FATHER
Top Of The Pops
appearance from 1972. Good quality video and audio on
the most famous clip.
SON OF MY FATHER
Promo Video 1972 shot
prior to a gig at Southsea Promenade for a foreign TV
company.

Version) 1972
SON OF MY FATHER

Even rarer Promo
Video but for some reason it's been re-produced back to
front! The moog is being played from right to left
instead of left to right and suddenly the band have a
left handed guitarist. Confused? So were we! But the
audio is good quality.
SON OF MY FATHER
Currently Unavailable even though the other clip from
here for "What's Your Name" has not been taken down!
This is a gem - an
appearance by the original Chicory Tip featuring Peter
Hewson, Brian Shearer, Rick Foster and Barry Mayger. It
was performed on the 1983 TV show "Unforgettable"
presented by Alan "Fluff" Freeman - our thanks to Rick
for allowing us to use this from his private collection.
SON OF MY FATHER
Currently Unavailable
This is a rare 2001
TV appearance as a trio on a Belgian TV1 programme
called "Swing Palais" featuring Rick, Barry and Brian
performing their number 1 hit. It's another gem from
Rick's private collection and Rick sings the proper
vocals which weren't available when Brian recorded the
1972 hit!
SON OF MY FATHER

This is a treat -
possibly the last TV appearance by Chicory Tip who went
to Portugal to appear on the Lottery Show performing two
songs including their biggest British hit. Peter Hewson
had left the band so Barry, Rick and Brian were the
three remaining - Rick is miming to Brian's vocals on
this. Our thanks to Rick for allowing us to
use this from his private collection.
SON OF MY FATHER
This is one of the
last performances of the original hit-making quartet -
Peter, Barry, Brian and Rick. It came bizarrely on the
Clive James TV show for Calton ITV at the end of the
20th Century with actor Liam Neeson one of the guests on
the show. The band played out with a shortened version
of the song and instead of the usual backing tracks,
this was a live version featuring a band with horns
augmenting the band.
SON OF MY FATHER
Apparently recorded
in 1995 in Amsterdam (and not 2005 as the caption
suggests) for a TV show called "Golden Years" but who
the line-up is we are not sure except there are no
originals and we think the lead singer here is Geoff
Howells. The band was put together by an agency as a
stop-gap when the original band came off the road.

GOOD GRIEF CHRISTINA
This is a real rare
item - we think it is the only ever appearance by the
original Chicory Tip featuring Peter Hewson, Brian
Shearer, Rick Foster and Barry Mayger singing this song.
It was performed on the 1983 TV show "Unforgettable"
presented by Alan "Fluff" Freeman - our thanks to Rick
for allowing us to use this from his private collection.

An acoustic cover by
Danny McEvoy on YouTube.
WHAT'S YOUR NAME
AUDIO: A cover
version from the series "Top of the Pops" in the UK.
WHAT'S YOUR NAME
AUDIO: A cover
version from the series on Marbe Larch Records called
"Top Hits" - a similar series to the Top of the Pops
series in the UK.
WHAT'S YOUR NAME
AUDIO: Remember those
dodgy compilation albums on Pickwick and Contour in the
70s? Here's a Moog compilation with one of Chicory Tip's
biggest hits on.
SON OF MY FATHER by CASCO
AUDIO: There's been
some strange cover versions of "Son Of My Father" but
this, by Casco, is stranger than most.
SON OF MY FATHER by
GIORGIO
This is the
version by the writer of the song, Giorgio Moroder, who
went on to write most of their hit songs after that.
SON OF MY FATHER by
GIORGIO
AUDIO: This is the
single version by the writer of the song, Giorgio Moroder.
Note the proper lyrics!
SON OF MY FATHER
(Bilingual version) by
GIORGIO
AUDIO: This is a mix
by a fan of the single version by the writer of the song, Giorgio Moroder
in both Italian and English.
MAANTIELTA TALOON by DANNY
AUDIO: Finland singer
Danny cut "Son Of My Father" using a similar arrangement
to Chicory Tip's version but of course sung in his
native tongue.
MAANTIELTA TALOON - THE ROCK VERSION
AUDIO: We have to
admit defeat here. We presume this is a Scandanavian
rock version of "Son Of My Father" but we really have
not got a clue who is singing it. Do tell us if you
know! We'd also like to know why the accompanying video
of a road was used. At the start you can hear a touch of
Gary Glitter.
HIJO DE MI PADRE
AUDIO: A Spanish
version by (we assume) a band called Pelon Rock & Roll.
Que?
GOOD GRIEF CHRISTINA by VALENTINA
AUDIO: This is the
nearest you'll get to Bonnie Tyler covering Chicory Tip!
Again, no info on the lady at all so if you can help
send us an e mail.
GOOD GRIEF CHRISTINA by TONY RIVERS
AUDIO: Remember those
great "Top Of The Pops" albums for 49p in Woolworths
that used to bring you cover versions of the current
hits of the time? They featured un-credited versions,
but the man doing this version of Chicory Tip's last hit
has been unmasked as .... Tony Rivers.
GOOD GRIEF CHRISTINA by MAX GREGER
AUDIO: We've saved
the best to last!! Yes, a ballroom dancing version and
it really does swing! This has only recently surfaced.
Unbelievable!!
EXCUSE ME BABY by MAGIC LANTERNS
AUDIO: This was a hit
in 1966 and made the dizzy heights of number 44 for the
band. Five years later it was Chicory Tip's third single
release.
I LOVE ONIONS by JACKI WEAVER
Now here's a surprise
- an actual performance video of the song done by Jacki
Weaver and Brian Henderson. Jackie is an actress from
Australia and this clip is from Australian Bandstand TV
show.
I LOVE ONIONS by SUSAN CHRISTIE
AUDIO: This was a hit
in 1966 in America and pre-dates Chicory Tip's version
of it by five years. It was on the same label as Chicory
Tip, CBS Records, and remains one of the strangest songs
recorded by the band.
I LOVE ONIONS by LAURIE
AUDIO: Signed to
Decca we have no idea who she was, but here is yet
another cover of this song for you.
I LOVE ONIONS by SANDY EDMONDS
AUDIO: This was regarded as one of the best versions of the
song.
FRIEND OF MINE by DR MARIGOLD'S
AUDIO: This was
another version recorded within a few months of Chicory
Tip's version, and also was produced by Roger Easterby.
Dr Marigold's were offered "Son Of My Father" before
Chicory Tip recorded it and turned it down.
PRIDE COMES BEFORE A FALL by
DR MARIGOLD'S
PRESCRIPTION
AUDIO: This was the B
side to the single "March Hare" on Route Records and the
B side to "The Lady With The Snake Tattoo" on Santa
Ponsa Records.
I CAN HEAR YOU CALLING by
THREE DOG NIGHT
AUDIO: Here is the
Three Dog Night version of one of Chicory Tip's album
tracks from the album "Son Of My Father." Their version
was recorded in 1969 from the album "Naturally" and
was the B side of their hit "Joy To The World."
I CAN HEAR YOU CALLING by
BUSH
AUDIO: This is the
original version of the song later covered by Three Dog
Night and Chicory Tip. Bush were a Canadian rock band
and they wrote the song.
MARIANNE by THE EASY RIDERS
AUDIO: A much clearer
version of the hit song as above featuring lead singer
Terry Gilkyson.
MARIANNE by TERRY GILKYSON
AUDIO: A different
version again and this one features some rare images of
the Easy Riders and Terry Gilkyson.
TODAY'S A TOMORROW by CRUSH
AUDIO: This was
thought to be Chicory Tip recording this song under a different name
but in fact it wasn't, although Rick Foster of Chicory
Tip was involved.
Producers were still Roger Easterby and Des Champ and
writer was Giorgio Moroder and Pete Belloti but released
in 1973 on Santa Ponsa Records.
TODAY'S A TOMORROW by GIORGIO MORODER
AUDIO: This was
Giorgio Moroder's version of his song which was recorded
by Crush although it was destined to be a Chicory Tip
song and indeed used a picture of Chicory Tip
(bizarrely) on the sleeve. This version sounds
more like Chicory Tip than Chicory Tip with much more
moog sounds.
ON A CHICORY TIP by DENIM
AUDIO: This is
extremely bizarre. A Chicory Tip mash up for a new
creation of a song called "On A Chicory Tip." This is
certainly different!
